Description
Vintage/antique White Mountain brand hand crank old fashioned ice cream maker. This ice cream maker is ready to go now, perfect for making ice cream this summer. All of the components are in very good, gently used condition. I have had and used several over the years and this one was in such good condition when I inherited it that I did not dare use it.The wooden barrel is tight, no signs of cracks or separation at the joints, a common problem with these wooden barrels. Wire hoops show signs of surface rust, but are solid, stable, and provide the correct tension. Handle bale has no bends, no signs of breakage or repair, nor does the wooden handle. Metal crank locking mechanisms are in very good, original condition and still function as they were designed. No breaks, cracks, or welds in either holder. White Mountain Label is original, clear and good. The only thing I can find that is not original is a replacement cork for the weep/drain hole on the side of the bucket. Crank mechanism operates smoothly, no unusual sounds or grinding noises associated with crank mechanisms that are about to fail. No cracks, welds, breaks or damage to cranking mechanism, just the usual oxidation. Marked correctly with the White Mountain stamping and 'Made in U.S.A." on the verso. Also correctly stamped with the number '2', signifying that this is the darling sized 2 quart maker which takes up so little room and is the preferred size for portability - camping, picnics, dinner at friends (as an aside, we used to take our White Mountain freezer to Friends houses who had children. We'd tell them we would take care of dessert. We'd pack the supplies in a small cooler and would include toppings. The kids would be BLOWN AWAY by making their own ice cream and I have NEVER found anything better to keep children engaged and fascinated for basically the entire time it takes to have a leisurely dinner!). Freezer is very good, typical oxidation to the exterior, interior is clean and bright. Seems are still tight and do not leak. Paddle mechanism is very good, drive gear is very good+. I would say that this ice cream maker saw very little use and was put away somewhere that was clean, dry, and at a fairly stable humidity. I do not think you will find another in better condition unless it was brand new (old stock). You'll enjoy this for years and, if you take care of it, you children's children will still be enjoying it.
