Burmese Kalaga Tapestry

Description

This Burmese Kalaga Tapestry is skillfully crafted of various fabrics and materials. The gold thread appears to be silk and black linen is used for the backing.  The stitching consists of yellow, gold, bronze and silver metallic threads. Silver and gold sequins, clear and colored beads are used throughout the design to accentuate the details.  Black velvet is used for the background of the tapestry as well as the loops used to hang the tapestry. The craftsmanship displays embroidery skills along with quilting and sewing. All elephants are stuffed and raised from the surface. There are five tabbed loops for hanging bars at the top.
The age of the tapestry is unknown. However, there are definite signs of age. There are also some missing beads and pulled threads.
